Clinical Counselors

Sarah Beams, MS, LMHC

Clinical Counselor

Primary Campus: DePauw University

Sarah Beams, MS, LMHC is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Indiana.  She received her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Carolina Greensboro, and previously a B.A. in Psychology and Spanish from Hope College.  Sarah has experience in in-patient psychiatric care, private practice, hospital, and university settings, and views counseling from a client-centered approach.  She believes the intersections of how an individual feels they compare to who they desire to be, who they feel others perceive them as, and who they feel they should be informs their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.  Sarah believes clients have the tools to cope with the issues they face in life, whether that be through finding solutions or coping with the aspects we cannot change.  She believes counseling is an interpersonal, supportive relationship in which she works together with clients to find these aids, and achieve greater well-being.

From having grown up in the area, Sarah was aware of the need for further mental health resources in this portion of the state, and sought to help fill the gap.  This need, along with her passion for working with the college population, led her to becoming the first DePauw-based clinician with MINDful College Connections.

In her free time Sarah enjoys spending time outdoors, running, swimming, cycling, reading, and attending

concerts.
